“I don’t see why people love midna so much, or twilight princess for that matter. twilight princess seemed like a game centered around her and only her, not like a zelda game. it’s one of the reasons twilight princess is one of my least favorite zelda games.”
I’m sorry, this is just retarded.
In Ocarina of Time, the Ocarina plays a major part in the game, not just Zelda. Link’s Awakening and Majora’s Mask don’t even MENTION Zelda, and yet, they’re still part of the series, and haven’t gotten many complaints. The game is called “Twilight Princess” for a reason; it’s about the Twilight Princess, which Midna just so happens to be. Of course the game is going to involve her a lot, otherwise they would have chosen a different title. TP is not the only game that doesn’t obsess over Zelda; some of the Zelda games where she IS major character don’t even obsess over her that much. The Zelda series is mainly about saving the princess, yes, but that is not the entirety of the game. The only game I can really think of that Zelda is the absolute most important character is Skyward Sword, and even then you’re still playing as LINK. If anything, the series is mostly about Link, since he is the only character that remains prominent throughout the entire game, because you’re playing as him. Does that mean you hate all Zelda games, because they don’t focus souly on your beloved princess?
THIS x infinity
The game is called Twilight Princess for a reason. It’s going to focus on well, ..The Twilight Princess.
I mean, shit.
I hate when people seem to hate Midna for this reason. It’s like they didn’t understand what the game was really about. \:
Midna made the older elements of Zelda look like they weren’t important at all. Yes it’s about the Twilight Princess, but even in games like Ocarina of time or Windwaker the game gave more character development and explanations to older items.
Midna - a character nobody cared before - shuffed Ganondorf, Zelda, Mastersword, Triforce and even Link in the background.
That’s the different Fi made in Skyward Sword, even if the games’ title was about her the game focused more on the development of Zelda & Link. Even explaining why Ganondorf appears in Ocarina of time.
Excuse me but I personally LOVED Midna
I’m probably biased but I don’t think it’s a bad thing that the story focused more on her than past companions? Link still saved Hyrule, still went on the same systematic adventure, still destroyed Ganondorf and helped people along the way.
what’s so bad about having a more prominent side character who is ACTUALLY interesting and has ACTUAL characterization? Just because one of them has a real solid backstory (excluding Tatl and Tael, because they had some story too) and is more prominent than before, does NOT mean the story suddenly becomes ABOUT her. The story about TP is about how Zant used Ganondorf’s power to take over Hyrule, and how two people from two different worlds teamed up to save the land. Yes, they both started out saving their own land and not knowing much about the other, and yes Midna was fairly selfish at the beginning, but she learned about Hyrule over time and came to appreciate the relationship that the Twilight world and the light world share. That is what the story of Twilight Princess is about, unless I played an entirely different game than everybody else on here, because very few people seem to grasp the concept of this and can’t get past Midna or Zant.
just because TP is different from a lot of Zeldas does not make it bad. All of them are pretty unique in their own ways. My gosh, you guys are so accepting of Majora’s Mask and Zelda only appears in one cutscene! Why is it always Twilight Princess that gets bashed and rejected? Why can’t we just appreciate the series and ALL of the games and what each one has to bring to the table?
The problem is with Midna is that she’s a very developed character compared to the rest of the older cast. You see Midna wasn’t a bad character at all but she stand out from the rest of the main characters (who’ve never been that round)
I fell in love with the Zelda series because of Link, Zelda and Ganondorf. They’ve always been the trio that fights over the Triforce and well stuff happens in Hyrule because of it. Ocarina of time and Windwaker both were amazing games because they gave us more interaction with the three main characters. Windwaker even went so far to develop more story behind Ganondorf.
Now comes Twilight Princess, featuring the three main characters yet again with heavy potential of becoming a great Legend of Zelda story. I personally think Twilight Princess is a great story, just not a great story for the legend of Zelda (including the three main characters of course) You see Windwaker and Ocarina of time gave us some expectation that Twilight Princess would give both Ganondorf and Zelda more development. Even Link for some reason. But it failed because they heavily focused too much on Midna. Nothing really focused on Link, he was more a supportive character then the real hero of the game. Midna was the actual hero and Link was the side character.
That’s why I prefer Fi over Midna, she’s underdeveloped but the development was all on Link’s part. The story is focused on him doing the trials and saving his beloved friend. Skyward Sword Link actually felt like someone who became more confident in his own power. That’s something I didn’t see in Twilight Princess Link, especially facing Ganondorf, he’s more interested in being shuffed in the background by Midna than going into a fighting stand and face the main enemy of the Zelda series alone.
Tldr; Midna great character, but not great for the original main characters of the Zelda series because she’s too developed compared to the underdeveloped main cast.
if your only reason for disliking Midna is because she was more developed than past characters/the main trio, then that in itself tells me a lot about your opinions.
I see where you’re coming from now and it makes sense, but this is exactly why I can’t stand Twilight Princess hate. People write it off because it’s ~*different*~ because it has a different shift of focus. I still don’t see what’s wrong with change and focusing on somebody else for once (I’m sorry - wait no I’m not - but 10+ games about the same characters gets boring after a while). Change is good, but unfortunately a lot of people get attached to a story and a set of characters and a style of gameplay and they don’t want to let it go. This is why a lot people had trouble with MM, because the only character of the three getting development in that was Link, and even then it wasn’t about him, it was about Termina and its people
I’d go in to how really Link isn’t developed much objectively in the story, because he’s an insert for the player and the player’s adventure and so everyone is going to see his story differently…but that’s the entire point. Personally when I play the Zelda games, I see more development happening around Link in the environment. I think in SS, everyone had a ton of story and all Link did was get stronger to save everyone, but that’s all he was designed to do, so that you yourself could be in the story and control what happens next. You develop for having played it, Link is just a filler role and therefore really doesnt do much, technically speaking. It’s why I have a hard time shipping Link with anyone, because I feel like I’d be shipping myself, not him
but yeah, now I see where you’re coming from and that’s a whole other argument entirely, one that’s really not necessary. You and most others don’t like it because it breaks the mold and actually develops and focuses on a different character (what they set out to do, I should point out, so regardless of personal bias, it was a successful game). It comes down to preferences and some people like it and some people don’t. I just wish people in general would stop saying “this is a bad game because it breaks the pattern and I don’t like it”
because that is literally the most absurd and poorest excuse anyone could give for saying something is bad.
I love Link’s awakening, love the oracles series and I love Majora’s mask. I don’t mind the difference but like I said Twilight Princess would have been better as a spin off game than a legend of Zelda game. There were too much things cramped in Twilight Princess, we suddenly had Ganondorf as the main villian (while the game mostly focused on Zant), one you never connected to unlike in Ocarina of time and Windwaker. Princess Zelda in Twilight Princess was even worse and most of the game you’ve forgotten totally about her.
Another thing about Midna is how fans constantly say she’s original. She’s not. She and Zant are direct copies of Ezlo and Vaati. So the difference it made wasn’t that much.
Just a comparison of them:
Ezlo cursed into a hat
Midna cursed into an imp
Ezlo uses Link because he can’t face Vaati alone
Midna uses Link because she can’t face Zant alone
Ezlo is an actual Minish sage
Midna is the Twilight Princess
Both Vaati and Zant had the same motives and wanted more
MC Ending: Ezlo dissapears into a realm Link can never visit again
TP Ending: Midna dissapears into a realm Link can never visit again.
See there’s the difference Majora’s mask, Oracle series and Link’s awakening made. They had original stories with a more balanced cast.
For example even if the main title is Majora’s mask, the game heavily focuses on Termina being in danger because of the moon. In Twilight Princess Hyrule is in ‘danger’, yet the game focuses too much of Midna being the developed main character. When she’s sudddenly ‘dying’ the whole game focuses on that moment, dramatic music starts, Zelda who actually imprisoned herself for the sake of Hyrule and can’t leave the castle because of that just dissapears to save Midna’s life. Making her being in the castle the first place, pretty much pointless.
I love Link’s awakening, love the oracles series and I love Majora’s mask. I don’t mind the difference but like I said...
THIS. WHY CAN’T ALL ZELDA FANS AGREE ON THIS?
I agree completely! I’m sorry, but I’ve NEVER played a bad Zelda game. My LEAST favorite would have to be the original,...
Excuse me but I personally LOVED Midna I’m probably biased but I don’t think it’s a bad thing that the story focused...
